Metal Tabs To Replace License Plates In 1953 Plan
Baltimore December 19 1952 a wartime metal tab plan returns next year to conserve steel and aluminum tabs will attach to existing plates with slots. Edward M Wilkes foreman of the license plate shop at the state penitentiary estimates about 255 tons of steel saved. The tabs display numerals 53 in black on a silver background reversing the 1952 plate colors.
