Frederick Fire Board backs National Fire Academy site

The Frederick City Fire Board on Monday endorsed locating the National Fire Academy near Frederick within an hour of Washington. The $9 million complex would house 400 students and 40 faculty, strictly for education, with no burn structures. Congressman Byron and Senator Mathias have been contacted. The board also announced inviting a Frederick public works representative to future meetings and urged all paid drivers to attend the January 13 session on insurance benefits.

Tax cut extension moves closer to Ford desk

Congress faces a conference committee to draft a six month extension of 1975 individual tax cuts with little chance of Ford's approval. Voting indicates overruling a veto is possible, but spending ceiling demands linger and affect final passage. The bills differ on aid to the poor and families, while withholding remains at current levels through June 30.

Energy bill moves to final Senate action amid price rollback

The House approved the broad energy measure by 236 to 160 as Congress nears a final vote. It would roll back domestic oil from 10.75 to 7.66 per barrel, allow yearly price increases, and cut gasoline costs by about 2.5 cents per gallon. The plan includes a 15 mpg auto standard rising to 27.5 by 1985, an emergency fuel reserve, and loan guarantees for coal and other provisions, with Ford’s veto uncertain.
