Dark Picture For Farmers
Dr Paul E Nystron new Extension Service director at University of Maryland warned Fred erick Lions Club that 1956 holds a sad farm outlook with a 40 percent drop in national farm income and a need for sideline work, despite defense spending and rising dairy consumption. He cited price supports and social security as buffers but urged production cuts and better management, noting dairies fare better than dirt farmers while foreign markets must absorb surpluses. Nystron urged optimism on world production records and trade, ending with storms ahead and blue skies to follow.
