Christmas season sales improve across many cities
An Associated Press survey of about 90 cities shows 62 report higher December sales than last year, 16 near parity, and only six declines. Detroit’s slump is temporary as 1955 car production rises. National indicators like employment and the stock market are strong, with stores like Allied Stores and Sears Roebuck predicting solid gains. Weather also influences shopping, with cold snaps boosting demand for winter goods.
