Maryland Farm Tenancy and Leasing System Survey

A study by University of Maryland researchers analyzes Maryland farm tenancy and leasing from 1926 to 1951. It compares share and cash rents, landlord and tenant returns, regional tenancy patterns, and the shift toward livestock profits amid falling crop prices. The report notes long rental traditions, varied county tenancy levels, and calls for reform through clearer leases and adjusted rent forms to balance risk and rewards.

Transient Department to Set Up Here in City

Plans for a rural branch of the State Transient Department were under formulation after a 24 hour census of comments. The office would be near the Federated Charities building on South Market Street with a transit station, dining room, kitchens and housing. The aim is to stabilize transients by anchoring them to localities and coordinating with railroads to curb long distance rider travel, while also aiding homeless families. Names of transients were collected during city tours by Jack Mains and City Officer Marshall Murray. The program envisions medical care, semi permanent housing, education and recreation, plus police cooperation to track repeaters, with a permanent Frederick office expected soon.
