Dutch seize Venezuelan coast guardship Alix
Dutch cruiser Gelderland captured the Venezuelan coast guardship Alix outside Puerto Cabello. The Alix crew was sent ashore and the vessel towed to Willemstad with the Dutch flag raised. Forts at Puerto Cabello did not fire, Curacao residents hail Holland's action as leverage against Castro, while Curacao officials frame it as a reprisal and warn further seizures may follow from La Guaira to Maracaibo in a tense regional dispute.
