East coast beef operation tour highlights large feedlot

Frederick County visitors toured the Virginia Feed Lot Corp at Herndon owned by Chantilly Corp. Manager Bill Brockett oversaw about 5 500 cattle on Fairfax County land rented in Loudoun. The operation plans 10 000 head, uses no-till corn, stores high moisture corn in a 500 000 bushel bunker silo, and reports low mortality about 0.5 percent.

Beef Producers Elect Officers In Maryland

W Drew Stabler of Gaithersburg becomes president of the Maryland Beef Cattle Producers Inc succeeding A Leland Clark of Poolesville. Jerry L Shanks of Mount Airy is vice president, Robert D Riggs of Brookeville re elected secretary treasurer. A committee will study possible amalgamation with the Maryland Beef Cattle Improvement Association.
