End Of All Bowl Games Recommended
Washington, Dec. 18. Ten college presidents unanimously recommended abolishing all postseason football bowl games as part of a broader program to supervise athletes from high school through college. The plan calls for season confinement of sports, banning lavish entertainment, freshmen varsity bans, academic standards, and funds controlled by the colleges. If violated, schools risk jeopardizing their academic standing. The committee, named by the American Council on Education, aims to finalize a written report within a month with potential enforcement by accrediting bodies. The group listed members including Dr. John Hannah and other college presidents. A formal report could be ready after a January meeting.
