Joseph Etter, a contractor living between New Market and Frederick along Route 40, reported a Wednesday intrusion into his residence. Thieves entered via windows and a door, then opened a cedar chest to steal about $1000 in cash and $800 in government bonds while the Etters were away at a relative’s funeral. Authorities said several small piggy banks remained untouched. Deputies and a state trooper investigated the break in near Whippoorwill Hollow.
