Treasury Hope For Tax Bill Wanes In Senate
Leading members of the Senate Finance committee say they will raise little more than 2 billion dollars in new revenue from the 1943 tax bill. They doubt enactment before Christmas and view the House proposal of about 2.14 billion as the ceiling, far below Morgenthau’s 10.5 billion demand. Affected by trimmed measures, passage before holidays appears unlikely. Men’s Bible Class officers were elected at Evangelical Reformed church: Shriner president Slagle vice president Trouck secretary Himes treasurer Kefauver assistant treasurer. Santa letters to The News Post offices include names from Mt Airy and Terre Haute and Stanley Hades.
