Reagan to sign spending bill amid budget battle
President Reagan says the 4 billion in domestic spending cuts from Congress are just another installment in his budget pruning effort. Joseph Arnold Machiz, 23, of Mail Road Westminster, was given the maximum six year prison sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of manslaughter by auto in a July 1 1981 head on collision on Md 26 near Buffalo Road. Two minor traffic charges were dropped under a plea deal.

Protestant Protest at Crumlin Road Prison Ends
About 50 suspected Protestant guerrillas ended a two day protest atop Crumlin Road Prison in Belfast. Four guards and 13 Catholic inmates were released unharmed after the government pledged to review prison conditions. Protesters, believed Protestant extremists, had seized captives with numbers and barricades.

Panel backs raising Maryland drinking age to 21

Wheaton Man Killed Crossing Md 85
A 74 year old Wheaton man Sigbjorn Moland was struck and killed by a GMC pickup on Md 85 south of Grove Road at Evergreen Point Friday at 7:55 p.m. He was from Georgia Avenue Wheaton and died after transport to Frederick Memorial Hospital. Robert F. Strailman of Adamstown was the driver. Investigating officers were C R Schrum and William Lucas. This raises Frederick County 1981 deaths to 41.
