The United States and Japan have arrived at a settlement over the Yap island dispute amid weekend developments at the armistice conference. British delegates plan to return by December 31, as stock market activity shows gains in metals, equipment, and offices sectors at the session's start. Call money opened at five percent.
British delegates except Sir Auckland Geddes expect major arms conference questions to be decided by December 31 with smaller items deferred to ambassadors. Rene Vivian former French Premier and head of the delegation plans to sail home next Wednesday with Madame Viviant and other French delegates.
A mob of about 2,000 women and relatives of striking coal miners prevented workers from returning to the Jackson-Walker Company mine in Pittsburg. The crowd, largely foreign and without clear leaders, halted autos and tore off car side curtains as they gathered but did not march into the mine yard.
William J. O'Toole of Gary West Virginia is named minister to Paraguay in a likely historic appointment. Backed by Senator Elkina Republican West Virginia the 28 year old would be among the youngest to hold a ministerial post in the diplomatic service.

The loot was found under a coal pile in Taxton, Ohio, at a house occupied by Peter Voelker, one indicted man, as Velker and three others face various charges. Velker and others indicted. a suspect named Joan Hatten, a Black man, pleaded guilty.
Seven members of the voluntary fire department in Donmore were charged after a false alarm. Chief FL J. Mar. piveowine presided over the case. Fines totaled ten pounds each and a separate penalty was imposed for delayed response.
