Methodist minister stripped of credentials faces future ministry
The Rev. Hamrick loses ministerial credentials after stepping back from Christmas services. His son James will officiate most services while Jeffrey Walter of Thurmont leads others. Bishop Yeakel and Dr. Eugene Matthews informed him of the decision, noting he cannot perform ministerial functions within the United Methodist Church. Hamrick says the decision does not relate to his Christmas service withdrawal and hopes to return to preaching when the Lord allows. The district superintendent will discuss a path forward with Thurmont United Methodist Church leadership and plan for new pastoral leadership. Hamrick expresses sorrow but faith in eventual restoration.
