Gettysburg Hotel to Close After 150 Years in Business

Gettysburg Hotel will cease operations at midnight Monday December 14 due to multiple developments since 1961. Manager Henry M. Scharf cites Visitor Center opening, U.S. 15 bypass, Midtown congestion, parking shortages and hundreds of new rooms nearby as factors. The closing affects transient rooms and dining services, while apartments and theater areas remain. The Scharf family has managed since 1914, with the hotel expanding in 105 rooms and adding theater and offices before closures are considered for alternative uses.
