U.N. Plans Withdrawal of Bangladeshi Peacekeepers in Bosnia

Four hundred Bangladeshi soldiers in Velika Kladusa, Bosnia, under heavy shelling may be withdrawn by the United Nations. Supplies are scarce and a man died from illness. Serbs block aid and Croatian routes, raising doubts about a temporary pullout and return. United Nations spokesmen place the withdrawal through a Serb-held Croatia to Zagreb at about 100 per day for four days.

ERNEST A DETTBARN DIES AREA PHYSICIAN DEDICATED CAREER

Dr. Ernest A. Dettbarn, a noted Frederick and Walkersville physician, died at Memorial Hospital Easton on Saturday December 3. Born February 16, 1924 in Baltimore, he studied at Randolph-Macon College and the University of Maryland Medical School. He served in the Navy and later held leadership roles at Fort Dix until his retirement in 1991.

Frederick County Farm Bureau wins top honors at Maryland convention

Frederick County Farm Bureau swept the 79th Maryland Farm Bureau Convention banquet earning the Outstanding County Farm Bureau trophy. The group excelled in eight programs and was praised for education outreach, farm tours, women's committee work, and the speakers bureau. The county’s auxiliary women’s committee was named outstanding in the state. Local events included farm safety camps, open houses, and community food distributions under President Jesse Burall.

County eases restrictions on home based businesses

Frederick County Commissioners approved an amendment to the zoning ordinance after hours of discussion. The change allows home based businesses to operate from the main house or an accessory building and to use as much of the home area as needed, expanding beyond the previous 30 percent usage.

Amazing Grace Stup Celebrates 100th Birthday Early

Grace Ida Stup, born December 10, 1894 in Woodsboro, reached centenarian age with a party at Frederick’s Odd Fellows Home on North Market Street. Staff and local officials attended as Mrs. Stup, wife of late Elmer Stup and longtime Frederick resident, is celebrated for a life with five children, nine grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
