Lane May Trade With Kansas City
NEW YORK Frank Lane the trade conscious Chicago White Sox general manager today went after the Kansas City Athletics in an effort to add to the two deals he completed yesterday that brought three players from the Baltimore Orioles and three from the Detroit Tigers. Lane hinted at pursuing third baseman Jim Finigan and pitcher Arnie Portocarrero as top targets while noting the cur few that prevented a third deal last night. Lane outlined readiness to trade but did not name players, as the two major leagues opened a convention with meetings. Chicago had earlier swapped seven players for six in two trades, sending Don Johnson and Don Ferrarese, Matt Batts and Fred Marsh to Baltimore for Clint Courtney Bob Chakales Jim Brideweser, and then obtaining Wall Drope Bob Nie man and Ted Gray from Detroit for Ferris Fain Jack Phillips and Leo Christante. No cash changes hands in either deal.
