One Way Streets In City Ordered
The Board of Aldermen authorized City Attorney E. Austin James to draft an ordinance designating new one way streets in Frederick and to start installing cable for new traffic light systems on Monday. Market will be one way northbound and Bentz one way southbound between South and Seventh, with the west Bentz lane northbound and east lane southbound. Patrick and South streets may become one way later. The city plans no parking on the north side of South between Bentz and Market and on the south side of Seventh between Bentz and Market. A conference on land acquisition for East street extension to the North Market Pike, involving the I O O F Home, is set for next Wednesday. The East street extension awaits state and federal approval. The mayor and board discussed the 1952 budget, with December 27 set for Board of Equalization and Review and a public budget meeting on December 20. Mayor Rice is at a Maryland Municipalities meeting in College Park.

Faces Sentence Monday For Shooting Escapee
A 1 year-old Washington boy faces a Monday sentencing in Baltimore for the fatal shooting of a fellow escapee from the National Training School for Boys. Arthur Swann was convicted by a Federal Court jury of manslaughter in the death of Raymond Thorne at Fort Meade. Thorne’s body was found near Laurel, Maryland, after they disappeared from the school six months earlier. Swann did not testify. a statement said Thorne was killed with a shotgun stolen from a trainer, the two arguing and the gun firing as Swann knelt. Swann had been in a mental hospital since 1950 and was later deemed fit to stand trial. Judge Chesnut set the sentencing for Monday.
