Five Laws Proposed by Baltimore Bar Association Committee
The Committee on Amendment of the Law of the Bar Association of Baltimore City drafted five proposed laws to be acted on at the December 17 meeting. Approved measures would go to the next Legislature. One bill would align Maryland practice with federal rules by allowing state judges to order directed verdicts, giving plaintiffs similar footing to defendants. Another would standardize divorce procedure with states adopting American Bar Association recommendations. Additional proposals address a drafting error in the 1900 act regarding promissory note endorsements, a punctuation error in an 1900 act affecting attachment claimants, and repealing a dead letter requirement for executor tax receipts. The committee also considered changes to jury law and a jury commission, but no bill yet formulated.
