Justice Department probes Microsoft Internet impact
Justice Department investigators probe whether Windows 95 was designed to hobble rival Internet access software and raise rivals' costs. Civil subpoenas to Netscape and CompuServe seek evidence on changes to software or marketing in response to Windows 95, with Netscape's browser highlighted as a key factor. The probe, launched as Windows 95 gains prominence, centers on potential antitrust concerns about Microsoft using its OS dominance in online services.
