County Deer Season Nears in Frederick County
The deer season will reopen for one week next Monday at sunup after a two year closure. Regional Game Warden Benjamin Phebus notes increased deer in the Catoctin mountains and city watershed areas near Thurmont and Emmitsburg. Hunters must report kills before skinning and use rifles with at least 1,200 foot pounds muzzle energy. The War Production Board asks hunters to save deer skins for military use, outlining skinning and handling procedures to keep skins suitable for government channels. The US Fish and Wildlife Service appeals to all persons.
