The Frederick County Board of Education asks 416000 for 1944, a 5000 increase, to fund a 20 monthly bonus for teachers from September to December 1944. Superintendent Eugene W. Detroit December 3 William A Carlson supervisor of Secret Service agents said agents last month thwarted a plan by a mentally deranged Pontiac man to assassinate President Roosevelt. Walter Best 38 former worker in Pontiac and Detroit factories was adjudged insane November 23 ten days after his arrest and is in Gallinger Hospital Washington awaiting removal to a Michigan mental hospital. Best's wife told Oakland County authorities after receiving his letter describing the plan to kill the President and how he had entered the White House guard area before being discovered.
About 75 Knights Templar and Grand Commandery officers from Maryland attended a visitation to Jacques DeMolay Commandery No 4 in the Masonic Temple Thursday evening. A dinner was served by Evangelical Lutheran church women followed by inspection by Grand Inspector General Charles N. J. Gwinn.
