Essroe proposes 25 acre landfill to replace dust piles
Essroc and Essroe officials discuss a new 25 acre landfill to replace existing dust piles, reducing height from 90 to 60 feet, extending life from 30 to about 20 years, with concessions including dust control, monitoring, and a five year review by the Maryland Department of the Environment. Local residents oppose, citing landscape impact and groundwater concerns while debating the dust’s recyclability. The plan targets opening the new site by October 1999, pending hearings and zoning.
