Three Slot Machines Seized At Emmitsburg Legion Post
Deputies raided the Francis X. Elder Post American Legion in Emmitsburg on Tuesday night and seized three slot machines two nickels and a quarter, accusing the veterans home of keeping a gaming table. Officers entered without a warrant under liquor-license search authority and will present the machines as evidence at trial. The raid follows a county crackdown on illegal gambling after a prior Moose lodge raid in 1951.

Boy Aged 6 Fatally Shot By Older Brother
In Mt. Savage Maryland Gerald David Crowe six was killed by his 14 year old brother yesterday while playing in the backyard. Dr. H V Deming ruled the shooting accidental and said the boy died from a hemorrhage after a 22 caliber bullet lodged in his lung. The rifle slipped from the older boy when it struck the house and discharged. Gerald staggered into the kitchen and died en route to Miners Hospital. The Crowe family were the boys' parents.

Woman Flyer Makes Flight Over Atlantic

Duties For Atomic Age UN Charter
Washington reports the United States may seek revisions to the United Nations Charter to empower the General Assembly and curb Russia’s veto, a policy hinted by Secretary of State Dulles in Boston. 150 Americans Released Amid Kaesong Talks and POW Returns

LOS ANGELES The deportation blues piled up on crooner Dick Haymes as he faced a second deportable charge, three subpoenas, and a 5% hour preliminary hearing. He admitted filing a World War II relief deferment as a neutral citizen, said it was only temporary, and plans to fight immigration to the Supreme Court if needed. The hearing revealed a previously undisclosed 1939 marriage to Edith Harper, alimony arrears to Joanne Dru, a divorce filing by Nora Eddington, and a department store bill of 415. Born in Argentina, Haymes came to the United States in 1937 and has not become a citizen. The government alleges he was ineligible to re-enter after visiting Rita Hayworth in Hawaii.
