Assam Earthquakes Toll Near Five Thousand Across Assam
New Delhi August reports place the death toll around 5,000 as aftershocks shattered Assam crops and homes. Dibrugarh, population 90,000, reported a severe quake at noon with widespread destruction and flood threats from Dibru and Brahmaputra rivers. Ten million homeless and property damage estimated at 100 million rupees accompany ongoing tremors and a red glow seen near Tibet. A Poona irrigation official travels to assist recovery amid fears for the tea industry's future. In other news, a St Matthews Lutheran women’s Bible class met at Mrs Hawker’s home with 15 members, a program by Mrs Compher, readings by Donna Jean Compher, and planned next gathering at Mrs Isabelle Fry’s home.
