Regional ag news reports the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation Board of Trustees will convene at 10 a.m. on Tuesday August 27 in the administration building at the Maryland State Fair. The agenda covers district petitions amendments and policy issues.
The New Market Grange will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday August 28 at the Grange hall. Joel Thompson will present a video on the Montgomery County Regional Composting Facility. A pasture walk is planned from 10 p.m. to midnight on September 35 at Holterheim Farms located at 5627 Holter Road between Jefferson and Middletown. The Holters report grazing started last year with cattle and heifers, new fencing, watering system, and perennials planted, now with pastured cattle and replacement heifers. A geotextile fabric land demonstration will be shown. The Carroll County Extension Service sponsors private pesticide applicator training and exams on October 3 with two sessions, optional, at the Extension office. Readable entries include Maryland State Fair Timonium dates and numerous local agriculture events from Aug 24 to Oct 24 at various venues such as Grange halls farms fairs and schools.
Tim McIntosh of Woodsboro recently attended the Washington Leadership Conference in Washington D C. The Walkersville FFA member was greeted by conference leader Lee Schroeder.
From Annapolis a National Farm-City Conference report highlights a strong seven state turnout and a new agriculture awareness exhibit for the Great Frederick Fair. DPI’s Chickens and Eggs manual joins the Ag in the Classroom national program. Maryland leaders note agriculture drives $11 million in the state economy and farmland preservation leads among 16 states.

Key factors include cow comfort, forage quality, milking management, replacements, and water. He stresses equipment and ventilation issues as often limiting gains and urges farm workers to assess constraints with a fresh set of eyes.
