A 54 year old pedestrian, Edward Howard Duvall of Spiceberry Lane, was struck and killed on Md. 124 near Mineral Springs Drive as he crossed the road. Seventeen school crossing guards and four city police officers will staff busy intersections to improve child safety during the new school year. Guards will operate at multiple posts around North Frederick Elementary, West Frederick Junior High, Waverley Elementary, St. John’s Elementary, Calvary United Methodist Church, Parkway Elementary, South Frederick Elementary, East Frederick Elementary, and other local streets starting Monday, Aug. 31, the first day of Frederick County schools.
President Reagan may scale back the planned increase in defense spending to help balance the federal budget by 1984. Top aides argue over how much the Pentagon should yield, with Stockman denying a proposed $20 billion cut and Weinberger stating fewer funds could still arm the nation.
Temperatures and humidity will slowly increase over the next several days while skies remain generally fair.
