Democrats Name Byrd Fate of Mahoney on Talbot Ballots
In Annapolis Aug 25 the Maryland Court of Appeals refused to throw out 254 challenged Talbot County ballots that could have swung four unit votes to George P. Mahoney in the Democratic nomination fight with H C Byrd. Mahoney said he would not pursue Queen Anne’s County recounts, while Byrd urged voters to unite and press the campaign. The convention will nominate Byrd and draft a platform as Mahoney weighs possible action in Baltimore’s 4th District. Republicans welcome the Democrats’ split as McKeldin heads toward a November race.
