French Youths in Frederick County Observe Big Differences in Life

Seventeen French youths aged 14 to 20 staying with local families since July 31 describe American life as faster and more car dominated. They visited Washington D C and museums with Intrax coordinator Cornell and found language and cultural gaps, yet overall enjoyed the experience and some hope to return.

Covered bridge to be moved aside for new structure

Frederick County considers replacing the 100 year old Roddy Road covered bridge with a simple one lane wood deck spanning Owens Creek at a cost near $1 million. Proposals A through E plus two variants seek to streamline 490 to 1,575 feet of roadway and adjust alignment while keeping the historic span open to pedestrians. Public comment is invited until September 5 at the engineering department in Frederick Maryland.
