Tax increases eyed as committees seek small state savings
Annapolis lawmakers probing spending found little fat in the budget with modest cuts advised. Proposals target the Baltimore Port footprint and the unfinished trolley line while urging smarter use of funds to prevent social problems. Key savings include 270 000 from scrapping the Agriculture Seafood Marketing Office and 36 million from halting trolley expansion, offset by 27 million in federal support. The Port Administration would trim 2.5 million and lease space to private firms to boost state revenue.
