He received 30 days in jail with 28 days suspended and a $100 fine plus costs. He was placed on one year unsupervised probation. The judge stressed public trust and noted Himes’s background with the city and United Fire Company.

Adlai Stevenson’s 1952 campaign odyssey and push
A compact portrait of Adlai Stevenson as Democratic hopeful in 1952. The piece notes his refusal of certain offices, his long campaign trail exceeding 30,000 miles with stops across major cities, and his image as a witty diplomat. It also references Kefauver’s bid, Stevenson’s stance on communism, and a Labor Day Flint moment tied to a Pulitzer Prize joke.
