Atrocity Hill battles to defend Taegu in Korea
HAL BOYLE recalls Atrocity Hill as a savage four day fight that halted a Red advance toward Taegu. The U S First Cavalry Division held a steep ridge two miles from Wegwan, ending a threat to the Naktong river line and preserving the Taegu defense. The clash, marked by brutal combat, taught soldiers the resolve to hold ground rather than surrender to the enemy.

Senate to push broader curbs on Communists in security bill
Washington reports that lawmakers expect the Senate to approve a stricter set of measures against home front Communists than President Truman proposed. Debate to start soon, with the House moving toward a broad internal security bill, while Mundt and Bergeson drop a plan to add economic controls to Truman’s program. The McCarran bill would require registration of Communists, bar front groups, and deny passports and government jobs to subversives. Meanwhile Prince Hall Freemasons of Maryland adjourned after electing Dr. W. W. Allen Grand Master for the 28th year.
