Charles Samuel Deneen born in Edwardsville in 1863, later Chicago state's attorney renowned for prosecuting criminals. He gained national prominence through the Luetgert case, with a career marked by relentless pursuit of criminals and early education influence from his educator father.
Washington reports a Morriston Arkansas man C D Earl buried ten thousand dollars to protect it from banks. Decayed greenbacks were largely unreadable when recovered, with only 25 dollars and a 875 check legible. Mrs A E Brown of the redemption division identified most notes after he mailed the remaining fortune to the treasury.
