Galveston survives a tropical storm largely due to a sea wall that held, while the coast suffered heavy damage and a growing death toll. Increased demand for coal has drawn in the working forces at more than a dozen mines in the Pittsburgh district. About 7500 men are now on full time during the last two weeks, according to local cooperators. Production in the district is at a higher rate than any time this year.
