Farmers Trust aims to empower farmers through nationwide stock plan
The Big Farmers Trust Corporation of Wisconsin and Illinois outlines a farmer owned stock scheme incorporated at Pierre South Dakota with a capital of 30 and a goal to eliminate middlemen. It plans branch offices nationwide led by Chicago, handling farm produce on commission or cash and will trade grains to obtain better prices for farmers. Banks nationwide will host stock agencies and retain half the funds to loan to farmers at low interest, with dividends returning money to producers. Hamilton White of Chicago leads the project, aided by Chicago bankers promising ample capital to support the venture and ensure success.

Sanitarium scheme for Hot Springs defeated by Knights
In San Francisco on Aug 19 the Supreme Lodge of the Knights of Pythias defeated a plan to erect a Hot Springs Arkansas sanitarium. The $250 660 project would have been funded by a per member tax of 10 cents semiannually for five years. The vote was 96 to 30 and the report of the Special Investigating Committee was rejected. The lodge argued taxation not allowed by its constitution though members individually supported a sanitarium if built without tax.
