Five year term reimposed on former Mountaindale resident
A five year prison term was reimposed Monday on Thomas Michael Hudnall, 21, former Mountaindale resident, for violating probation after escaping Frederick County Jail while awaiting transfer. Hudnall, who represented himself, previously faced a suspended burglary sentence from 1961 and was later arrested in Indiana attempting to steal a color TV. Other notes include two local cases: Gregory Fazenbaker died of a heroin overdose while charged with stealing a postage stamp machine, and Elizabeth Abrecht and Roland Baker faced driving while impaired or suspended license charges with probation or fines. A bench warrant was issued for Barbara Hurley for passing a worthless check and failure to appear.

Officials say air crash not related to strike
Authorities say a California midair collision and two U S incidents involving jets in New Jersey and Florida were not connected to the air traffic controllers strike. PATCO officials cited possible inexperience in the New Jersey and California events as a factor while pilots followed visual night rules without radar guidance.

Judge rules against state merit employee in Cambridge case
Cambridge judge Charles E. Edmondson ruled against state merit system employee Robert P. Sonny Wroten in his bid to keep his DVR job. The court found the position had been removed from the budget after a three day trial. Wroten, 47, had worked 29 years as a vocational evaluator before his July 10, 1981 dismissal amid a reduced force. Edmondson cited a Court of Appeals ruling allowing department layoffs for bona fide reasons and found no subterfuge. Wroten called the ruling a setback for merit employees and noted lost retirement benefits as he nears 30 years of service.
