Classroom Shortage In Baltimore County
TOWSON Md Aug 17 The Baltimore County Board of Education says it faces the most severe classroom space shortage in the county's history. More than 1000 pupils will be on half day shifts or in emergency quarters when the new year opens next month. Five new buildings completed did not end the shortage and another elementary school due December will ease it slightly. Plans for next month put 5490 pupils on part time shifts at three high schools and 14 elementary schools. About 4600 from 27 schools will attend classes in churches converted businesses abandoned but reclaimed school buildings cafeterias and storerooms. Prospective enrollment is 57135 an increase of 17000 since fall 1950. Enrollment over the last decade rose by 16000.
