Historic Araby Home Bought by Clapp Family
The historic Araby estate near Frederick, built circa 1780 by John Marshall, was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Clapp Jr. of Lindbergh Avenue. The Clapps plan to move in September 4 and will sell their Lindbergh home. The mansion, a Civil War site, endured Confederate shelling and later housed a council of Union generals. The property, once tied to the Thomas and Gambrill families, has undergone restorations and preserves slave quarters and toll house.
