Not Interested in English Girl Who Wrote Him Letters
Richard Holder of Gapland says he is not romantically involved with Violet Marguerite Burchill of South London who wrote Baltimore for missing mail. He says he will not settle down for years despite daily letters since returning from overseas last February. He met the Bunhill family in London after service with the Army Air Corps, spent weekends there, and believed the romance would fade. His mother doubts love, noting he kept replying to only some letters. A possible solution is to write a brotherly, platonic response to ease the situation.

V-2 Rocket In Crash Explodes At White Sands Proving Grounds
A German V-2 rocket fired by Army technicians crashed and exploded at White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico on August 13. There were no casualties. Lt. Col. Harold R. Turner reported the rocket veered, shed two tall fins at 29,000 feet, then the fuel was shut off. The projectile fell about 1.75 miles north of the launch site, leaving a 1,000 foot blast radius and a large crater with little smoke. Army experts cited gyroscope or mix computer issues as the likely cause of the instability.
