May draft looms with expected difficulty in finding enough eligible registrants for induction as quotas arrive next month. Local Selective Service offices press ahead, combing veteran records for those with under six months service. In Frederick County two dozen discharged veterans were reviewed, and one man under six months was found eligible.
A single, under age 29, who fell short by two days of minimum service time, was added to eligibles for renewed draft. Coordinating Ciera George C Slagle announced contact with Veterans Administration to identify discharge causes, medical or otherwise, for those with under six months service to determine renewed eligibility.
Three local service members were honorably discharged Wednesday through Jocal Draft Board II. The troops named were John Richard Willard of Rt 1 Smithsburg, John Edward Molesworth of Rt 2 Monrovia, and George Thomas Yeager of Rt 1 Mt. Airy.
