Frederick man dies while saving drowning girl in North Carolina
Daniel Vasquez a 21 year old Frederick resident died Thursday in Corolla North Carolina while trying to save a 16 year old Yorktown girl in a riptide. He was a goalie coach at Damascus High School and a Towson University student who planned to join varsity hockey. His family established the Daniel Vasquez Memorial Fund for a scholarship.

Air One of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office used airborne patrols to spot 14 speeders in two hours on Reich's Ford Road where limits are 40 for cars and 35 for trucks. Ground deputies stopped six drivers in 40 minutes and eight more later as aircraft flagged speeding 52 to 61 mph during Thursday and Friday operations.
