Senator seeks to cut 10 million from service academy bands
Senator Sam Nunn proposes saving 10 million by eliminating funding for bands at the Naval Academy Air Force Academy and West Point. Band members argue the group adds value through ceremonies, parades, and public concerts, while officials defend the bands as essential to life at the academies and leadership development. The proposal stalls amid broader defense budget fights with potential impacts on the Strategic Defense Initiative.
