Five Year Owen Suspension Stays from Baseball
Cincinnati August 14 Former Brooklyn catcher Mickey Owen must serve a full five year suspension from organized baseball for hopping to Mexico. The National League and baseball authorities reaffirmed the penalty, noting no reason to lessen the suspension. Owen had jumped contracts and played in the Mexican League before returning to the United States. He attempted to plead his case with Commissioner Chandler, who was away, as Mallory and Ruel heard his appeal.
