Alaska Birding Voyage Part II From Anchorage to Nome
The trip aboard an Alaska Airlines twin otter then a Alaska Marine Highway ferry carried our group to Homer Kodiak and Resurrection Bay with abundant pelagic birds. We tracked murrelets petrels auklets and scoters while porpoises sea otters and orcas accompanied the crossings. Nome offered gold rush ghosts and stark frontier life even as new birding opportunities drew our attention to dun dippers spruce and portage glacier views. Next week we continue with Nome and Barrow.
