Clover a mortgage linter a Pennsylvania farmer's experience
W F Mc Sperren of Lancaster county Pa explains growing crimson clover as green manure. Sow 15 pounds seed per acre with corn in August, harrow well, and obtain a good stand. Clover stores nitrogen, improves soil fertility, and aids moisture retention. It crowds out erosion, supports root and top development, and allows fall manure application. He has grown it for ten years, using it for soiling, ensilage, hay, and plowdown, with better crops where kept well covered and moist.
