Thousands of Studebaker employees in South Bend Ind prepared to vote on a pay cut to reduce costs. CIO UAW negotiators urged acceptance as reductions would remove piecework and incentive pay, averaging 14 percent. The second vote followed a near draw a week earlier when about half the union membership was absent. The company also announced it would end the current contract in 60 days.
