Mayor vows veto over tax abatement for late Rothenhoefer estate
Mayor Hugh V. Gittinger announced he will veto the Aldermen's vote authorizing a $6,000 tax abatement for 1943 and 1944 on the late Charles F. Rothenhoefer property. Receivers for Excelsior Dairy requested the reduction, while Alderman Charles P. Staley opposed the action. The veto would require a four to one override, which Gittinger says would be unfair to other taxpayers and would cut both county and city abatements by about $125.
