Frederick man hit by flak on bombing mission
Lieutenant Elmer Eugene Haller, 1022 North Market Street, was wounded July 28 over Europe while a bombardier on a B 17 Flying Fortress. In an overseas letter to his mother and wife he said he has a leg injury in a cast and will be hospitalised six to eight weeks. He recently earned the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for meritorious achievement in heavy bombing missions. Haller, overseas since March, is a Frederick High School graduate and former Frederick County National Bank and Key Chevrolet Sales Co. employee. He trained in California, New Mexico, Washington and Florida.
