City to study hiring more minority contractors in Frederick

Frederick city officials agreed to explore ways to hire more minority businesses after a briefing by local attorney Willie Mahone and publisher George Dredden. Ausherman Wins Frederick County Agricultural Society Membership

Marvin Ausherman of Frederick bought a society membership certificate at public auction for 18 200. Auctioneer Delbert Null said the certificate came from the Alvin Young estate via Katherine Kelly Howard. The 12 year old society owns the fairgrounds and produces the Great Frederick Fair.

Halfway house funding halts juvenile placements

SABILLASVILLE The state Department of Juvenile Services will not place more youths released from Victor Cullen Academy at an adjacent after care facility due to financial problems at the halfway house. South Mountain Project, a federally funded residential program next to Cullen, serves 15 beds for boys from Cullen and other Cullen incarcerations, with plans for community based after care. The moratorium will impact Victor Cullen as no other site is available for placement.

Walkersville May Pitch State Police Bicycle Patrol

Walkersville officials consider becoming the first Maryland town with a state police bicycle patrol pending approval from town commissioners and Maryland State Police Superintendent Larry Tolliver.
