Outstanding Cooperators Named in SCS Districts
The Catoctin and Frederick Soil Conservation Districts named 1981 outstanding cooperators. Joseph Wivell and family near Emmitsburg were honored at Mount Tabor Park, while Robert Fry and family near Middletown were recognized at the Jefferson Community Center. Wivell, a dairy farmer since 1959, runs a 212-acre farm and has been a cooperator since 1974. His contract led to approximately 2.5 miles of underground drainage, 1,800 feet of open ditch drainage, 1,000 feet of grassed waterways and filter strips, and a milking parlor manure trap. Future plans include a spring development and a drinking water system.
