Dairy price plan seeks major dairy reform in US
Washington AP The House Agriculture Committee unveiled a sweeping dairy program overhaul proposed by Rep Steve Gunderson. It would end special milk taxes in exchange for wiping price supports, create five marketing regions, bring California under federal rules, and base milk prices on use rather than distance. The plan aims to boost exports, cut subsidies, and balance the budget by 2002, with a Sept 22 deadline for action.
